Reinventing the internet might sound like an impossible task, but it’s being done as you’re reading this… Fast, scalable, and autonomous, the New Internet wants to stop the monopolization of the Internet.
Dfinity non-for-profit Foundation, the legal entity behind the protocol Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) which is the protocol used by the digital token, Internet Computer, was founded in 2016 with the sole vision of “reinventing the Internet as a computer that hosts secure software with superpowers” by Dominic Williams, a serial founder who has a Computer Science bachelor’s degree from King’s College London.
It has more than 100 million in funding from top-tier investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, 9Yards Capital, Polychain, Scalar Capital, KR1, SV Angel, Amino Capital, Eterna Capital, Aspect Ventures, and Village Global. And more than 150 employees around the world, from Palo Alto to Zurich.

The Internet Computer, with a variety of open internet services and unhackable software, is shooting for the sky, aiming to positively reinvent the trillion-dollar IT stack industry by making it cost-effective and secure.
The biggest differences?
● Small entry barriers: Users will be able to build directly on the network, by converting the Internet into a public compute platform apart from being a global network. This way, developers won’t have to depend on CDNs, databases, web servers, Big Tech cloud services from Amazon, Google, or Facebook, among others.
● One word, Democratization: “New Open Internet”, dynamic, collaborative, tokenized governance systems will run the Open Internet services, giving users an opportunity to democratize the Internet as we know it.
● The technology: Run by the Network Nervous System (NNS), which is responsible for controlling, configuring, and managing the network. “The NNS fulfills a wide range of network management roles, including monitoring the node machines to look for statistical deviation on the Internet Computer network, which could indicate underperformance or faulty behavior […] The Canisters, special smart contracts hosted by the Internet Computer, can serve web content directly to end-users. Users can interact with the blockchain services without having to hold tokens.”
